FTC Newsletter August 4 2012

August 5, 2012

After soliciting some good feedback, I’m going to start up a weekly newsletter for FamilyTreeCircles newsletter subscribers.

It’s truly been a while since I’ve sent a newsletter. If you’re reading this, you signed up for our newsletter, probably when you signed up for FamilyTreeCircles. If you don’t want to receive it, please click the ‘unsubscribe’ link at the bottom of this email.

On to the news…

The 1940 U.S. Census is Fully Indexed…and Free. announced on Friday that they have completed indexing the 1940 U.S. Census, which means that it is fully searchable.

You can now search the entire 1940 index for free, all 48 states (Hawaii and Alaska were not states yet) plus territories. A free account is required, but word is that Ancestry will make this index free through 2013.

Genealogy Tip: Spend Time Analyzing

The next time you have a chunk of time to devote to your genealogy research, spend it organizing and analyzing what you already have. Do not perform Google searches, do not use FamilySearch, or any other website, database, etc.

For that block of time for yourself to organize and analyze what you already have. The discoveries you make could surprise you.

Looking for help on the FamilyTreeCircles Newsletter

Finally, in order to get this newsletter going, and keep it going, I acknowledge that I need some help. I’m thinking about hiring someone to manage this for me. If you love writing about genealogy, and enjoy sharing information that you find that is of general interest to a list of over 10,000 family tree researchers (or if you know someone who fits the bill), please do let me know.
